Darwin and Moose
Tuesday, 1:00 pm: Too much work: I feel like a cowboy, what with clearing brush, mending fences and all. The weather has been great which means more time spent outside. The ever invasive Red Dogwood is everywhere and requires too much effort to eradicate it, but it needs to be done [sigh!]. In another few weeks I’ll be dreaming about it. Fortunately it’s only in my dreams and it doesn’t really come to life at night and suck out my brains while I sleep. Too many sci-fi movies I guess . . . hmm.

An Osprey in its nest near our house
We’ve been declared a disaster area. I’ve never been in a disaster area before in the United States. The border crossing station in Van Buren is closed, except for foot traffic across the bridge international bridge. For now, the traffic is routed either to Madawaska or Hamlin Maine. The last major disaster I was in was a typhoon in 1970 in Vietnam. Talk about being drenched and uncomfortable all the time! I could live without being wet, outdoors, for the rest of my life.

A beaver lodge down our road
Tonight we drive to Fort Kent for our monthly radio club meeting. The drive there and back is always interesting. Frequently we see large wildlife, sometimes staring at us in the middle of the road. I think passing cars are their evening’s entertainment – if animals can be entertained. It must be in my genes, because I’m easily amused, so I guess we’re equal in that regard. That Darwin did it to me again!
