Moose and Chinese Food

Grand Isle

Thursday, 2:25 pm: Back to life in rural America, which for
us means working in the garden and clearing brush. No more espresso in
sidewalk cafes for awhile. The fence company came by a few days ago and
straightened out our fence: Those dogs managed to iggle their way
under the chain-link and escape for an adventure. With the repaired
fence, their only adventure is in the backyard

now.

Next to US Route 1 in Connor Township

We rescued and released a female American Goldfinch yesterday. She
had some food stuck in her throat. Ruth and I managed to dislodge the
piece of thistle and she recovered quickly and was flying around our
porch. Doing the Heimlich Maneuver on a bird was a bit dodgy and
untried. Uncertain what we did, it worked. I did get a good photo while
the bird was resting on our screen. This clever blogger with all his
supposed skills inadvertently deleted the picture. I did learn one
thing this week; don't feed dogs Chinese food. I will spare you the
details.

Our birdfeeder and an American Goldfinch

While on US Route 1 in Connor Township today, we saw two young moose
enjoying an afternoon dip in a very muddy pond next to the road. For my
preference, there was a bit too much slimy mud to entice me to go for a
swim. Ah, chlorinated water!
