Snow Showers to Bitter Cold

I am certainly pleased that there is no wind here this morning. With the temperature where it is it would be abominable. Overnight we have gone from cloudy to snow showers to sparkling clear and very cold. When I did the chores last evening the goats and sheep came in with a light coating of snow, but not enough to measure.
This is the Winter Solstice, that time when the sun crosses the Tropic of Capricorn. This will be the shortest day and longest night of the year. In other words "Welcome to Winter". We have already been having wintry weather, so this should be nothing new.
ADDENDUM: The temperature dropped to 3.6 just before sunrise, and the current temperature is 4.7. So, it got even colder than it was when I started at 05:00. OUCH!
