A Red Sunrise, And Autumn-like Cold
The fog has thickened since 05:15 hours, when I first went outside. At that time, there was just a hint of fog to our west, and the sun, as you can see, was coming up red.
A Red Sunrise, Not A Red Sky This Morning
As I understand it, and the difference appears to be one of degree, when the sun rises red, as it is in this photograph, it portends a nice day, but when the entire eastern sky is red it can portent foul weather. Overnight we did have clear skies, allowing for radiational cooling, and the temperature is very close to frost. In fact look carefully at your tender vegetation, and if you have had a frost, you can save the plants by washing it off with a spray of water before the sun hits it. N.O.A.A. got some of it right and some wrong overnight. The cloud cover did go to 0%, we did have fog moving in at 05:00 hours and the low temperature was within 5°F of the predicted one of 40°F, but the relative humidity was at 90% not 76%. I therefore give N.O.A.A. minor kudos for their forecast.
For today, the Weather Underground model forecast map predicts a cloud free sky with high barometric pressure. N.O.A.A. predicts clear skies to start, with no rain, temperatures to rise from 41°F to 66°F, the cloud cover to increase from 0% to 42% by 14:00 hours and back to 32% by 17:00 hours and finally the relative humidity to decrease from the current 90% to a low of 32%. That is a good forecast for working on collecting some more wood for the winter.
My Weather Stick is stuck in its morning routine of pointing down. No forecast from that indicator. All three of my electronic instruments are showing a forecast of clear skies with continued high barometric pressure. With that situation, I have little choice, but to call for an incredible day for outside activities, but with a sweatshirt on, at least to start.
