September has been a true transition month. In many areas (though not here) there has been frost. The leaves have continued to change color as the month has worn on, and those colors have been more vivid than last year. We have had fourteen foggy mornings that may translate to fourteen significant storms for the winter season. We will need to keep track of that.
Thirteen of our mornings were either mostly cloudy or overcast as were 18 of our afternoons. That did not give us a large number of hours of sunshine for the month.. We actually had rain on 11 days for a total amount of precipitation of 1.79 inches.
Now is the time to find all those items that you do not want to run into with the snowplow or break shear pins on the snowblower. It also makes them easier to find in the spring when we need them. Covering the woodpile is probably appropriate also, since it does help to keep the wood dry when we have precipitation. We also need to remember that we need to have half our hay and half our wood on February 2nd, midwinter, groundhog day or, for our Wiccan friends, Imbolc.
