Frigid
The arctic air seems to have moved a bit faster than N.O.A.A. predicted. The forecast temperature seems to have lagged behind the actual by about three hours. The sky remained clear all night, and as a result of the radiational cooling the temperature has plummeted to below zero readings. I have had to adjust the low temperature twice since I started the report this morning.
For today N.O.A.A. sees no precipitation, temperatures remain in the twenties, clouds moving in late this afternoon and wind chills that will take your breath away. All in all a good day to get the chores done and get back inside where we can remain comfortable. Despite my shoulder problem I am thankful for my outdoor wood boiler. I have been able to maintain my house at 65°F instead of 60°F as I did last year due to the cost of fossil fuel. Outdoor wood boilers are a source of renewable energy!
My Weather Stick points straight out from my carriage house wall as a result of the 73% relative humidity. All three of the electronic instruments are forecasting foul weather with falling barometric pressure. N.O.A.A. does not seem to share that opinion, and I am not sure. According to the movement of the isobars on the Weather Underground model forecast map we should see the pressure begin to rebound by noon today. They usually seem to have it about right, so I will suggest that we shall see a significant amount of sun today, but the temperatures will remain cold, and the wind will probably produce some very nasty windchill temperatures. Talk about hedging my bets!
At the request of one of the readers of this report I have started to include the amount of snow we have had during the month. That data is added parenthetically in the appropriate places.
Low Temperature (°F): -8.6
Current Temperature (°F): -4.7
Relative Humidity: 73%
Dew Point (°F): -11.2
Heat Index (°F): N/A
Barometric Pressure (in. Hg): 29.76
Wind Direction: West
Wind Speed (mph): 0.0
Wind Chill (°F): -4.7
Precipitation: Dry (Snow)
Amount (inches): 0.00 (13 inches)
Sky-AM: Clear
Cloud Type: None
Weather Stick: Straight
Comparative data for the overnight.
Temperature: 19°F/16°F//13°F/8°F//9°F/4°F//5°F/1°F.
Relative Humidity: 51%/54%///63%/60%//66%/68%//65%/69%.
N.O.A.A. did not do very well with the forecast for the temperature overnight. The relative humidity forecast was better than that for the temperature, which is unusual.
Forecast data for today.
Temperature: 3°F/10°F/16°F/17°F.
Relative Humidity: 56%/50%/38%/33%
