We Were On The Other Side Of The Snow/Rain Line!

If you live near rivers or streams, keep a weather eye out for flooding. We live on a hill, so except for some water in our basement we are fine. We have a granite foundation, so water comes in makes a layer on the pea gravel floor and drains out. Life is good.

How High Is the Water Mama
N.O.A.A. predicted snow for our area, but as I noted last night the line was very close to us on their forecast map. We did get the rain instead of the 2 feet of snow, which is what we would have had if had remained as snow. For today, N.O.A.A. has forecast a wintry mix for Wilton, Maine, but we are having heavy rain instead. The temperature is forecast to reach only the mid-thirties, and the cloud cover to remain at 100%. It does appear that except for any frozen precipitation N.O.A.A. has it about right. We are getting drenched, and wetter by the minute.
My Weather Stick points DOWN, in response to over 90% relative humidity. The Weather Station has activated its storm alert while the other two electronic instruments forecast foul weather, and all three show the barometric pressure falling. I guess I will take my cue from them and suggest a dreary, dismal day with lots of clouds and rain for the future.

"How High Is the Water Mama"
I love that old timey quote. When I left 6 yrs. of Navy life off the Saratoga, home ported in Mayport, Fla. I heard that many a time. The typical answer was "six feet high n' ris'n!" Probably left over from the old days of the Mississippi floods.
We lost power at 1:40 a.m. this morning, in my area of Wilton, Walker Hill, and I shut off all the power, till I awoke this morning and put it back on. Let there be light, and there was! I didn't have to run the generator. 63 degrees inside and 32 degrees outside at 7:30 a.m.; rain, and the 5" we had of snow at midnight, had shrunk to a sloppy 3". My perspective is we lucked out, but the flooding will be bad news for some and I truly sympathise with them, as I had previously lived in an area where my basement was flooded, and it took months to repair, as it was concrete slab.

I spoke too soon in the above comment, as today I had to shovel an 80 yard swath downhill in order to drain my property. The water filled in as I was shoveling, so I went down to the bottom and shoveled uphill! It took me three trips to change clothes as it rained all day! I'll sign off before I get accused of hogging the limelight!
