Welcome Summer!
This is the longest day and shortest night of the year. It is called Midsummer, Litha or the Summer Solstice. Now the days begin to get shorter, imperceptibly at first, but more noticeably later in the season. Overnight we had none of the light scattered showers predicted by N.O.A.A. In fact we did not even have any of the fog. The sun came up into nearly clear skies and temperatures near the mid-fifties. It was a delightful early morning.
Once again, for today, N.O.A.A. is forecasting light scattered showers, but their cloud cover forecast does not seem to support that (14%/25%/37%/58%). The NEXRAD radar does not show any precipitation west of us, and there only seems to be one area at the Crown of Maine that is currently having any precipitation. Looking at the Weather Underground model forecast maps I do not see any precipitation until tomorrow afternoon.
My Weather Stick seems to be losing its touch or it is just lagging behind the relative humidity, since I would expect it to be trying to make a circle at 87% relative humidity. (At 06:40 the relative humidity is already down to 81%.). All three of my electronic instruments are in agreement. They are all calling for foul weather with falling barometric pressure. The barometric pressure has fallen from where it was last night, but I do not agree with their prognostication of foul weather. Unlike some prognosticators I rely as much on what I can see as I do on the instrumentation. What I see outside right now are clear skies and bright sunshine. I will go with that and predict that the day will be fair with temperatures in the low to mid-seventies. This should be another awesome day to work outside in the garden and finish the last of the tasks there. We will know this evening if I was right or not.
