A Cool Day: Good For Wood Preparation

The temperature today did get into the mid-sixties, but not by much, and it did not stay there long. There were plenty of cumulus clouds around, so the temperature did not get as high as they though it would. N.O.A.A. predicted fog early this morning, but that just did not happen. Their estimate of the cloud cover was about right. I started out cutting wood with a light jacket on, but it came off quickly. This afternoon it was pleasant to leave it on. It may not have been cooler, but it felt cooler.
For the overnight, the N.W.S. forecasts no precipitation and very low cloud cover at 3% all night. The Weather Underground model forecast maps show no storms on the immediate horizon. The NEXRAD radar also shows no storms on the composite anywhere in the region.
My Weather Stick is frowning just a little in response to the 84% relative humidity. All three of the electronic instruments forecast fair skies with rising barometric pressure. I cannot disagree with them. There is a very good chance that our growing season is over. Unless you cover your tender vegetation it very likely will be killed by the frost we will have tonight. The only things that may save it are fog or wind. Some areas may have fog tonight, but there does not seem to be any chance for wind.

N.O.A.A. had the temperature forecast correct for all four forecast periods (within five degrees). They missed all four of the actual relative humidity readings. Sorry guys, but you need to work on the prognostication of the relative humidity.
