There Is Disagreement Out There!

For the overnight N.O.A.A. forecast light scattered snow showers, and here in Wilton, Maine we had none. We did have plenty of wind though, and that is still blowing out of the northwest with some healthy wind-chill. When I first took Ike out this morning at 05:30 hours there were plenty of stars in evidence, although there were also some cumulus clouds. Now, at 07:00 hours the sky is nearly overcast. We are definitely having weather.
For today the N.W.S. forecasts no precipitation with diminishing cloud cover (42%/24%/13%/11%). The wind seems to be the predominant feature of the weather today, and it is blowing up a storm. The NEXRAD composite regional radar shows a few small echoes of frozen precipitation, and those seem to be moving in a southeasterly direction. That is a little different. They do not appear headed for our area either. The Weather Underground model forecast maps are where things get interesting. I have heard weather prognosticators continue to call for a major snowstorm starting Sunday night and lasting all day Monday. The Weather Underground model forecast maps show that storm developing somewhere around Long Island Sound, but being blocked from our area by a high pressure system. They do not call for the storm to reach us until late Monday afternoon, and then moving out sometime Tuesday.
My Weather Stick is smiling again with the relative humidity at 44%. At least we are now having the so-called "dry cold", and that feels just as cold as the "moist" cold. The wind out there is running around 6 to 19 mph. It is definitely howling. All three of my electronic instruments were calling for partly cloudy conditions and rising barometric pressure when I first checked them around 05:45 hours. In just over an hour and a half (07:15 hours) they are now all calling for fair skies with rising barometric pressure. The low temperature has fallen also to 15.9°F on my La Crosse Weather Station. Things are changing so quickly that I will need to take a point in time at just after 06:00 hours. That is when I took the readings that follow this narrative.
Low Temperature (°F): 15.8
Current Temperature (°F): 18.1
Relative Humidity (%): 44%
Dew Point (°F): -0.2
Heat Index (°F): N/A
Barometric Pressure (in Hg): 30.07
Wind Direction: South Southwest

Comparative data for the overnight.

Relative Humidity: 60%/52%//58%/57%//74%/66%//68%/50%

The N.W.S. did much better with their forecasting overnight. The only point they missed was at 04:00 hours for the relative humidity. I do give credit where credit is due.
Forecast data for today.
Temperature: 19°F/22°F/24°F/22°F
