The Forecast Keeps Changing!
We had no precipitation today, and sky did clear, as N.O.A.A. predicted. The wind though was the thing that kept our attention. It was cold, sharp and biting all day. The sun was out for much of the day, but it did absolutely nothing to warm the atmosphere. For the overnight the N.W.S. forecasts no precipitation, lots of wind, low humidity and little cloud cover (42%/2%/10%/19%). As a result we can expect the temperature to plummet like a cannonball headed from your hand to your foot. This is our first real bout of winter cold. The NEXRAD composite regional radar currently shows frozen precipitation stretching from Toronto down to central Pennsylvania, moving east. It is not moving fast at this point, but it does seem to be taking aim at us. The Weather Underground model forecast maps have backed the starting time for the storm to 09:00 hours Monday lasting until midnight Wednesday. That is a bit longer than the TV weather people predict, and the start time is somewhat later than they predict as well. There is talk of a foot or more of snow before it is over, even for the coast of Maine. Our ski areas should love this.
My weather stick sees the 49% relative humidity and smiles. If I smiled my face would crack right now. All three of my electronic instruments currently agree about the tendency of the weather. They are calling for fair weather with rising barometric pressure. I am betting that will not be rising for much longer if the track of the storm is right. The high temperatures recorded were 19.5°F by the La Crosse Weather Station, 20.3 by the Min/Max Thermometer and 30.6 inside the barn with the critters by the remote weather station. My surgical weather readers say foul weather is on the way, and should arrive within 24-36 hours. I wonder if they will get it right

The N.W.S. missed all but the 07:00 hour temperature forecast by more than 5°F. The only relative humidity forecast they missed by more that 10% was at 07:00 hours. The net result was a fair forecasting outing for them. Also, it was cold and windy all day.
