We Are Picking Up Where We Left Off

This Is Where We Start The New Year

Some Results Of Yesterday's Storm

Last night the sky was nearly clear, but this morning it has reverted to overcast, and the clouds are nimbostratus. We had no precipitation overnight, so N.O.A.A. did get that right. The temperature fell a little more than they expected, so I guess it stayed clear a bit longer than forecast. It looks and feels like snow is in the offing.
For today the N.W.S. forecasts no precipitation to start, with light scattered snow showers after 10:00 hours and snow after 13:00 hours to finish the day. The NEXRAD composite regional radar and local Portland/Gray radar show the storm at the border between New Hampshire and Maine. The Weather Underground model forecast maps indicate that the storm will start in earnest for us around 15:00 hours this afternoon and end around 21:00 hours tomorrow evening. I have checked the amounts predicted by the N.W.S. for this storm ending at 19:00 tomorrow, and we are apparently in the bonus area with an estimated 18" of new snow. ENOUGH ALREADY ENOUGH!!
My Weather Stick is still frowning. Oh well, the relative humidity is 85%, I should not be surprised. I guess I will be blowing this snow storm tomorrow morning and again tomorrow afternoon. My electronic instruments have already made some changes. When I checked them at about 08:00 all three of them forecast rising barometric pressure. Two of them forecast fair skies (it was already overcast) and the remote weather station forecast unsettled conditions. I guess the latter is more sensitive to changes in the barometric pressure. Now, at 11:30 hours two of them are calling for unsettled conditions with falling barometric pressure while the remote weather station sees clouds with steady barometric pressure. The low temperatures for this morning were 13.2°F, 15.8°F and 21.3°F in the usual order. Currently I cannot see the hills and mountains out of my west window. That usually means that we have some weather moving our way, and that weather today is snow. It does look like a white wall moving toward us here in Wilton, Maine. Well, no matter what we get, have a Happy New Year anyway.

The N.W.S. had all four forecast temperatures within limits compared to the recorded temperatures for today. They had three of the relative humidity forecasts within 10% of the actual recorded data. The only one they missed was at 13:00 hours. Not a bad outing today.
