Another 8" Added To The Total For January!
We had 4" on the ground when I took Ike out for his first romp this morning. When it stopped snowing around 13:00 hours we had another 4" on the ground. As the temperature rose that compacted quickly to a net of 4". When I did the snowblowing a little later that show was getting hard to move with the amount of water in it as a result of the temperatures over 40°F. At least it was reasonably comfortable working outside. The prognosticators said we would get about 8" of new snow, and I guess they were right. N.O.A.A. did say the storm would end around noon and the sun would shine. Once it stopped snowing the sky became totally clear, but there were some cumulus clouds moving through later in the afternoon.
For the overnight the N.W.S. forecasts light scattered snow showers for half the night and clear skies for the rest of it, or at least no precipitation. They do predict the cloud cover will increase somewhat overnight (36%/42%/47%/50%). I am not sure that will support light scattered snow showers for Wilton, Maine. The NEXRAD regional composite radar does not show any echoes for our area, but there is some lake effect at the end of Lake Ontario. The Weather Underground model forecast maps show a major storm at sea tomorrow night into Sunday, but it seems that it will be too far off shore to affect us. Let us hope so since I think we have enough to deal with right now. Other than that I did not see any storms in our immediate future.
My Weather Stick is trying to smile, but it just has not caught up with the relative humidity and is expressionless. Maybe it is just astounded that the relative humidity is falling to new low levels. All three of my electronic instruments call for the barometric pressure to rise. Indeed it has already risen from their earlier lows. Two of them are calling for fair skies while the remote weather station is forecasting cloudy conditions. The high temperatures recorded today were 41.5°F, 36.4°F and 37.6°F. It has gotten windy and that is making it feel much colder this evening, but when it is windy it usually does feel colder than it really is. I think we can expect the windy conditions overnight, but no additional snow. All we can do now is wait for the next storm to arrive.

Today the N.W.S. correctly forecast the temperature at all four points. They got half of the relative humidity forecasts correct missing the 07:00 hour and 13:00 hour points. This was all right, but not one of their better showings.
Forecast data for the overnight.
