Was It Frost Or Snow?
When I took Ike out for his morning constitutional there was the lightest coating of white precipitation on my truck and on the ground. After some investigation, I think it just might have been a very light dusting of snow. According to N.O.A.A. we could have had a light scattered snow shower between 19:00 and 22:00 hours. Based on the recorded temperatures there might have been enough clouds to support a little snow early on. The rest of the night the temperature plummeted to below zero levels again. It is still -3.2°F at 07:45 hours. That is cold in anybody's book. At least it is going to be a pretty day, albeit cold.
The N.W.S. forecasts no precipitation for Wilton, Maine. They also forecast a slight increase in the cloud cover during the day (6%/16%/26%/41%). There is nothing on the NEXRAD composite regional radar. The Weather Underground model forecast maps this morning are "undefined". They do not seem to be working. I will check them out again later.
My Weather Stick is expressionless due to the 72% relative humidity. All three of my electronic instruments predict rising barometric pressure. Two of them forecast fair skies while the remote weather station forecasts cloudy conditions. With the barometric pressure rising I do not think we will see that level of cloudiness. It will be cold though with this air mass coming in from the arctic. Overnight low temperatures were -4.9°F, -2.0°F and 9.0°F. Even the relative humidity is forecast by N.O.A.A. to be going down. The ocean storm may be having an effect on the cloud cover and relative humidity predictions.

The N.W.S. did not do very well overnight. They missed all four of the recorded temperature readings, and only had the 19:00 hour relative humidity forecast correct. I am not sure what happened, but it was not something good. Maybe the offshore storm confused them. I wonder if they will do better today.
Forecast data for today.
