Right Back Into The Single Numbers!!
At least these were not the single numbers below zero overnight. Ike and I did not spend very much time outside this morning because, in addition to being cold, there was a stiff breeze blowing making it feel much colder than it really was. The sky was very clear this morning and the stars predominated the morning sky. Although it is on the wane, the moon was very bright also. It does look like it is going to be a pretty day. At this point I would not hold out much hope that it will get above the freezing mark again today. It does appear that N.O.A.A. had the precipitation prediction correct, but their cloud cover forecast was very high when compared with reality.
For today the N.W.S. predicts that we will start off with fair skies, but may see some light scattered snow showers at midday followed by a period with no precipitation later this afternoon. The NEXRAD regional composite radar shows that far Eastern Maine is currently being pounded by the ocean storm that has been out there for the last couple of days. It does appear to be starting to move off, so the sky along the coast should begin to clear as we go through the day. The predicted cloud cover (58%/49%/41%/41%) does seem about right since there is cloud cover to our east, but none to our west, as you can see below.

No Clouds To Our West!
My Weather Stick is still expressionless as a result of the 69% relative humidity. Two of my electronic instruments forecast foul weather, while the remote weather station forecasts cloudy conditions for today. All three of them see the barometric pressure falling today. Here again, the ocean storm seems to be having an effect on what the instruments are forecasting. The low temperatures overnight were 6.4°F, 6.1°F and 15.8°F. There must not have been a lot of wind blowing through the barn for that temperature to have remained as high as it did. I think the cloud cover will continue to move off to the east, and that we will not see any of those snow showers that are predicted by the N.W.S. It may not be warm but it will not be particularly unpleasant.

The N.W.S. did do well with the temperature overnight, since they had all four forecast points within five degrees of the recorded temperatures at this location. However, they did not get any of the relative humidity readings forecast correctly. This must have been once more as a result of the storm sitting offshore.
Forecast data for today.
