The Mess Is Here, And It Is A Mess Indeed

For today the N.O.A.A. predominant weather forecast was correct. At about 15:00 the snow started in Wilton, Me. I drove to Auburn, and at about 16:00, when I reached Lake Auburn, it changed to sleet and freezing rain. When I left my meeting at 20:50 it was more freezing rain than sleet. I made good time coming home (a little over an hour) despite the condition of the roads. They were snow/sleet covered and slippery. Needless to say I took my time, and only one vehicle towing a snow mobile trailer passed me. In my opinion he was an idiot driving too fast for conditions. That was his problem, not mine.
For the overnight the N.W.S. forecasts more inclement weather with ice as the predominant form of precipitation. There was about 2.5 to 3 inches of the mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain on the driveway when I got home. The NEXRAD composite regional radar shows quite a bit of precipitation yet to come. These will be in the form of bands, so there may be some periods of calm between the periods of precipitation. This is nasty, and the cloud cover forecast supports it (99%/99%/97%/90%). The Weather Underground model forecast maps still say that this will not end until sometime tomorrow, and it may not be until tomorrow afternoon.
My Weather Stick is frowning and so am I with the relative humidity at 85%. There is not much agreement among my electronic instruments. They are all calling for the barometric pressure to fall, which it indeed has. The La Crosse Weather Station is calling for a storm warning. We are having a storm. The Min/Max Thermometer forecasts foul weather. Finally the remote weather station sees cloudy weather. That last on must be using some form of rose colored glasses. It is storming out there, and that is the end of it. We did have high temperatures, and only one was above 20°F. They were in the same order as the electronic instrument forecasts 19.5°F/20.9°F/20.5°F.

The N.W.S. forecast the temperatures correctly for all four forecast points today. They also had the relative humidity levels forecast correctly with the exception of the 13:00 hour point. This was a pretty good outing for the N.W.S.
