The Clouds Are Breaking Up And The Storm Moving On
Overnight we wound up with about 3 inches of snow, sleet and freezing rain. The crust on top of the snow was strong enough to support my weight when I took Ike out for his morning constitutional. We both had a tough time keeping our footing. The storm appears to be breaking up with lots of wind and cumulus clouds moving from the west to the east. Looking at the NEXRAD regional composite radar the system is almost out of Eastern Maine. Thankfully it was not a repeat of the Ice Storm of 1998.
For today our area of Wilton, Maine is forecast by the N.W.S. to receive light scattered snow showers. There are plenty of puffy cumulus clouds around and the forecast for the cloud cover could support that (92%/67%/36%/41%). The Weather Underground model forecast maps still indicate that we are in for some more from this same system, but I am not so sure of that based on the
NEXRAD regional composite radar.
My Weather Stick was frowning as a result of the 82% relative humidity (at 09:00 hours). Agreement among my electronic instruments is difficult to find. My La Crosse Weather Station indicates foul weather with falling barometric pressure (that is now fair weather with rising barometric pressure (11:00 hours). The Min/Max Thermometer had it as unsettled weather with rising barometric pressure. The remote weather station which always lags behind the other two had foul weather with falling barometric pressure at 09:00 hours. The low temperatures were 16.5°F/9.5°F*/21.7°F. I placed an asterisk on the Min/Max temperature because I reset it after the low of yesterday morning not realizing that the low for this morning would not get to that level overnight. I would have expected a low of 15°F to 17°F overnight. My best guess on the weather for today would be moderate overcast as the clouds move off to the east, some sunshine and moderate temperatures. Do note the ice on our favorite tree from this fall.

The N.W.S. forecast the temperatures correctly for all four forecast points overnight. They missed all four of the recorded relative humidity readings. This was a very poor result for our National Weather Service. I have no explanation for the forecast errors any more that why they got the temperature forecasts correct.
