Something Different, More Snow!
When I called it a day there were very fine snowflakes falling, and when I arose this morning more of the same type of snow was falling from those stratus clouds covering the sky. Route 133 here in Wilton, Maine appears to be white from ditch to ditch. When they did the work on the road they put 6' deep ditches on both sides of the road, I suspect to provide a place to put the snow during the winter. Well, this year they have not only filled them, but, if you look at yesterday's photo the snow is now piled some 4' above the top of the ditch. The pile at the end of my driveway is closer to 6' high. For the year we now have 53" of snow, and for the season around 106". We are approaching a normal 120' season, and there is a storm forecast for mid-week. It looks like N.O.A.A. got this forecast about right, and the snow is still falling.
For today the N.W.S. is forecasting something familiar, snow all day. They have also predicted a very slow decrease in the cloud cover (100%/94%/87%/89%). I am still not sure how to determine the difference of 11% from 100% to 89%, but there must be a way. The NEXRAD regional composite radar shows much of the storm having gone by, but there is some more in Eastern New York State that seems to be headed in our direction. There is also some precipitation showing up in the Gulf of Maine. The Weather Underground model forecast ;maps indicate that we will not be free of this storm until sometime early tomorrow morning. It just keeps coming.
My Weather Stick continues to frown and with 89% relative humidity I cannot blame it. All three of my electronic instruments are indicating that the barometric pressure is falling. The only one that is not predicting foul weather is the La Crosse Weather station that is indicating a storm warning. Indeed, it is storming out there, although we do not seem to have very much wind right now. Low temperatures recorded this morning were 25.3°F, 26.3°F and 25.7°F on the electronic instruments. I cannot see the mountains to the west, so I think we will continue to see some more snow fall before we are free of this system. I hope it will slow down enough around noon to allow me to get outside and clear the driveways. I say again, "I am ready for green grass and gardens." I know, we will get them right after Mud Season!

The N.W.S. forecast the temperature within limits for all four periods today. They missed only the 18:00 hour forecast point, and
that only by 1% outside the limits that have been set of +/- 10%. Not a bad job.
