The Storm Is Coming!

The Clouds Have Rolled In This Afternoon!
As was noted this morning there was supposed to be no precipitation for the first half of the day, and scattered light snow showers for the afternoon. We did not have any snow showers here, but the cloud cover has certainly increased to at least 85%. Even though it was almost 30 degrees when I was out the last time with Ike it felt quite a bit colder than that, and not because of the wind. Not only that, but it feels like a storm is on its way. Surprisingly the relative humidity is down, but it still feels quite humid out there.
The N.W.S. is predicting an ice event for us overnight with frozen precipitation being forecast all night with a cloud cover of 99% to 100% all night long. The line of precipitation continues to make its way toward us, and should be here, by my estimate, by about 21:00 hours. I am definitely not looking forward to this storm. I can deal with snow, but ice has created quite a few problems for me. Oh well, we will get what we will get, and have to deal with it. At least I have a generator if we lose our power, and I do have some gasoline to operate it.
My Weather Stick is smiling just a little, or maybe it is laughing at me. Whatever it is doing is in response to the 70% relative humidity. All three of my electronic instruments agree that the barometric pressure is falling, and indeed it is. Two of my instruments forecast foul weather while the remote weather station forecasts cloudy conditions. I think the clouds will continue to thicken and lower as they have done all day, and eventually the precipitation carried by those clouds will begin to fall. With the temperature where it is currently I do not think it will rain, rather I would expect freezing rain or sleet. Of the two I would prefer sleet, but it is not my choice. Our low temperatures around the property were 30.5°F,32.3°F and 27.5. It certainly did not get very warm in the barn despite the presence of the critters.

The N.W.S. had all four forecast temperatures correct today. They missed the first and third relative humidity forecasts for today by more than 10%. This was not as good as last night, but still not too bad. They will keep trying.
Forecast data for the overnight .
