Another Red Sky And Very Cold Temperatures!
It got very cold last night. N.O.A.A. had predicted low teens for the temperature, but it went to the single numbers below zero instead. They were right about the predominant weather, and we had no precipitation here in Wilton, Maine. Ike and I did not spend very much time outside for his morning constitutional. At least there was no wind to make it feel even colder than it was. There was a red sky this morning, and that may well portend some foul weather today.
The forecast from the N.W.S. this morning indicates that we will start out with no precipitation, but that will degrade into light scattered snow showers around noon and snow later this afternoon. The clouds are also expected to increase during the day today (59%/79%/100%/98%). That does support the prediction of some foul weather. The NEXRAD regional composite radar does snow quite a bit of snow south of us, but it does seem to be moving on a more easterly course that may only give us a glancing blow for this storm. Predictions range from 2" to 4" of new snow for our area, and even less in the mountains. We will need to wait and see on that until tomorrow.
My Weather Stick is smirking as a result of the 69% relative humidity. All three of my electronic instruments forecast rising barometric pressure. Two of them forecast fair weather and the remote weather station forecasts unsettled conditions. The clouds have thickened since I took my initial observation, and we no have some stratus clouds. The sky has become overcast as well. As I mentioned it was cold this morning with low temperatures of -9.4°F, -4.1°F and 5.7°F. In anybody's book that is cold. With the clouds thickening and lowering I can foresee some inclement weather before the day is out. How much snow we get out of this one is unknown, but there may not be enough to clear off the driveway this time. Again we will need to wait and see about that.

Once it started the temperature fell much farter and farther than the N.W.S. predicted resulting in temperatures below zero. As a result neither Ike nor I stayed outside for very long this morning. The relative humidity, on the other hand, was much closer to the forecast data.
