Fog So Thick It Can Be Cut With A Knife
N.O.A.A. did not say anything about fog overnight, but we have it right now. They did predict rain all night long, but according to my rain gauge we have not had any of that. When I took Ike out this morning it was just starting to rain in addition to the fog, which has thickened up since we came in. The other thing it started to do as we came in was rain. This is just starting out to be another dismal day.
For today the N.W.S. forecasts rain to start followed, by light scattered showers for the rest of the day. The cloud cover is supposed to increase as well as the day wears on (78%/91%/82%/78%) or at least remain quite overcast. The NEXRAD regional composite radar shows a significant area of disturbed weather to the edge of the regional picture. From the edge of the region to here the precipitation is widely scattered. The echoes from the edge of the composite seem to be heavier and more sustained. If this is correct, and the Weather Underground model forecast maps are also correct we will continue to have precipitation of some sort well into tomorrow. Another Wednesday, another storm?
My Weather Stick does not seem to like the 89% relative humidity, the way it is frowning so deeply. All three of my electronic instruments are calling for falling barometric pressure. The only one not calling for foul weather is the La Crosse Weather Station, and it is showing a storm alert. The recorded low temperatures were 31.6°F, 32.6°F and 34.3°F this morning. I think the fog will hang in there for now, and even if it does clear out it will be a dank and dismal day. The one very good thing is that the fog will eat the snow, and make it go away. It is certainly past time for that to happen.

The N.W.S. missed three of the four predictions for the temperature, getting only the 23:00 hour forecast correct. They did better with the relative humidity, since they only missed the 20:00 hour forecast. This was not one of their better jobs.
