Man, Don’t Those Chilly Winds Blow!

N.O.A.A. forecast no precipitation and decreasing cloud cover today. They were correct. It was windy though, so if you have a windmill to generate power you should be quite happy. I know I am happy with my outdoor wood boiler. It reduced my energy use for heat to about one fifth of the cost of the oil I would have burned two years ago. It is probably at about one tenth the cost of what it would have been this year. We need more outdoor wood boilers to reduce our dependence on foreign oil.
For the overnight the N.W.S. forecasts no precipitation and virtually clear skies (4%/3%/3%/10%). That should allow for considerable radiational cooling. Tomorrow will be four days since I put a full load of wood in the wood boiler, so we are getting better. I will enjoy those weeks when I can go 18 to 21 days between loads. The NEXRAD regional radar does not show any echoes from precipitation anywhere in our area. The Weather Underground model forecast shows the storm from yesterday moving into the Canadian Maritimes. Our next weather system, and potential for precipitation, appears to be on Saturday. There may be some snow associated with it, but we may also get some rain. In other words a messy storm.
My Weather Stick is smiling broadly at eh 55% relative humidity. All three of my electronic instruments currently show rising barometric pressure. Two of them call for fair skies, while the remote weather station sees things as cloudy. When I was outside a while ago the sky was clear and the wind brisk. The wind, by the way, once again has fangs. It is sharp and biting. The temperature at my weather station was 38.4°F, and that is out in the middle of a field where there is plenty of wind. The one on the north side of the house is in a protected area and recorded a high temperature of 47.0°F. The temperature in the barn also reached 47.3°F. So, in areas where the wind was calm and the air static the temperature did go up a bit more than in areas where the air was mixed. I think we will see temperatures overnight in the teens, but we will not see any precipitation or clouds.

The N.W.S. missed one point for each of the parameters. The 10:00 hour point for the temperature and the 10:00 point for the relative humidity. Again this was better than last night. I wonder if they can get to the point where they get them all right again.
Forecast data for the overnight.

Relative Humidity: 46%/50%/54%/64%
