A Quiet Night, With Fog At The End Of It.
There was some fog that was not forecast by N.O.A.A., but it burned off by 08:00 here in Wilton, Maine. When I first took Ike out for his morning exercise there was no fog, but some cirrus clouds had moved in making it mostly cloudy. This too was not forecast by N.O.A.A.
For today the N.W.S. forecasts no precipitation for the first half of the day with some light scattered showers for the early afternoon, ending by the late afternoon. The cloud cover forecast does not really seem to support that forecast (30%/32%/33%/46%) since a cloud cover of less than 50% usually does not portend any precipitation. The Weather Underground model forecast maps still call for some scattered showers on Thursday, but nice weather until then.
My Weather Stick is smirking at the 62% relative humidity. It is not quite a smile and definitely not a frown. Two of my electronic instruments still call for foul weather with falling barometric pressure. The remote weather station still sees things as unsettled with steady barometric pressure. I am not quite sure what to make of all this data, but as I look outside the sky is now overcast, and the clouds have lowered. I would suspect that we may see some showers later this morning, and the barometric pressure has fallen a bit more already. Our low temperatures did not quite make it to the freezing mark, but they got close (33.6°F/35.8°F/45.0°F). It really is getting a bit late for overnight temperatures to be getting this cold. Our average last frost date for this area though is May 15th. It is still not a good idea to plant gardens yet, except for lettuce and other clod weather crops that can stand a little bit of frost. I do hope to get my garden prepared for planting in the next week or so. The time does creep up on us does it not?

The N.W.S. had all four temperature forecasts with five degrees of the recorded temperature. They also had all four relative humidity forecasts within ten percent of the recorded relative humidity at this site. That was a very good showing.
