Reach Out And Touch The Stars
For today the National Weather Service a.k.a N.O.A.A. forecast no precipitation. I also suggested that there would be no precipitation. My Weather Station recorded 0.04 inches of precipitation, and that was the result of the snow in the rain gauge melting and being recorded. It appears that will happen from time to time. They also predicted moderating temperature, little cloud cover and variable winds. All of this appears to be the case, in fact the tabulated data shown at the end of this report does show that quite clearly for both the temperature and relative humidity.
For the overnight the picture is quite different. There is no precipitation predicted for our immediate area, but frozen precipitation, namely ice, is forecast after 01:00 hours. The temperature is expected to be in the low twenties, and the relative humidity is forecast to rise into the high 80% range. The cloud cover is also expected to rise from its low of 12% to a high of 68%. There is a weather statement recommending that people stay off the road as much as possible because of the ice that is expected.
At 67% relative humidity my Weather Stick points straight out. My Weather Station Console is currently forecasting partly cloudy skies. The other two electronic instruments are forecasting fair skies. All three are forecasting improving barometric pressure. With all the data I would suggest that we will start out with fair skies, but clouds will move in and frozen precipitation (probably sleet or freezing rain) will start to fall early tomorrow morning. Travel will become difficult and it will be a good idea to, again, curl up with a good book or a couple of new videos. Football is another option to consider. HAPPY NEW YEAR 2007!

The Sky: Virtually Clear
N.O.A.A. and I were right overnight. We did not have any additional foul weather, and the sky did clear almost completely. Despite the clear sky we did not have the radiational cooling that would have been expected. The temperature did not fall as far as it could have, and it did moderate during the overnight hours. I have heard some of the weather prognosticators say that there are times that they look at the N.W.S. forecasts, and all their instruments and decide that they have seen the patterns before. They then disagree with all of the data presented and, as I did last night, go off on their own and are correct. It is nice to get one right once in a while.
For today the N.O.A.A. forecast says we will have no foul weather, the sky will remain clear and the temperature will rise above the freezing mark. In fact it is already almost 35°F. Their forecast, then, is for a delightful early winter day. There is some snow on the ground, so the ski areas should be operating at nearly full capacity. A great day to get outside and enjoy the winter sports.
My Weather Stick points straight out, and again, with 56% relative humidity that is expected. My Weather Station Console forecasts partly cloudy skies with improving barometric pressure. The other two electronic instruments forecast fair skies with improving barometric pressure. With all the data, including the tabulated data at the end of the report, my best guess is that we are going to have a dry, moderately warm day, with clear skies and moderate temperatures and light but variable wind. What a way to close out the year. May I be among the first to extend best wishes for a safe and sane New Years Eve, and a healthy, happy and prosperous New Year, 2007.

The Snow Ended Around Sunset
As was noted in the title the snow ended around sunset, and the sky began to clear. There still is no significant wind associated with the storm, and the barometric pressure is still over 30 in.Hg. N.O.A.A. did have the predominant weather correct, since it did snow all day, as they forecast.
Overnight the sky is expected to continue to clear according to N.O.A.A., and the temperature is not expected to fall very far because of the southwest wind, even though it is light. We are not expecting any precipitation here, but there may be some light scattered showers north and a bit south of us. Good luck folks.
My Weather Stick points down, and the relative humidity is 84%. Have we seen the pattern here? I used to believe in weather sticks as forecast tools. My electronic instruments are all forecasting deteriorating barometric pressure. Two of them forecast foul weather, and the remote weather station forecasts clouds. I do not believe any of them. I think the skies will clear, and we will not have any more foul weather for the moment. That does not say we will not see something as the New Year starts, but we will have to wait and see on that.

Cold Overcast and Snowing
Overnight it seems that I was correct, and the temperature did not fall as far as it was predicted to, only reaching 18°F by 04:00 hours. The clouds did thicken and lower reducing the amount of radiational cooling that took place. The Weather Underground model forecast maps and N.O.A.A. did have the predominant weather correct since we did not have any precipitation before dawn.
For today snow is forecast by N.O.A.A., but not by the Weather Underground model forecast maps. The temperature is not forecast to get above the freezing mark, and the cloud cover is predicted to remain above 90%.
My Weather Stick points slightly up, despite the fact that it is snowing. The relative humidity is only 73%, and that is having its effect on that Weather Stick. All three of the electronic instruments forecast falling barometric pressure. Only the remote weather station is forecasting partly cloudy skies, the other two are predicting a storm or foul weather. I think the foul weather is probably the more accurate forecast.

High Thin Clouds Move In
Today was a nice day, but it did stay cold, with the temperature not even making it out of the middle twenties. The sky stayed clear for most of the day, and only this evening some high thin clouds moved in. Currently the barometric pressure is about as high as I have seen it at 30.52 in.Hg.
For the over night the experts predict no precipitation, although the clouds seem to be thickening, and the temperature is remaining in the low teens to single numbers. If the clouds continue to move in it may cause the temperature to rise a bit before dawn.
My Weather Stick points up, and with 54% relative humidity that is no surprise either. All three of the electronic instruments forecast fair skies and continued high pressure. My best guess is that we will have exactly that. Enjoy the evening.

A Clear Cold Night
Overnight N..O.A.A. predicted that we would have no precipitation, and we did not. They also forecast a drop to around 12°F as a result of the clear skies, and a high-pressure system bringing some cold air down from Canada. They were correct there as well. Based on my saved data from the overnight they also got the relative humidity forecast very close. When I stepped outside to take Bart for his morning constitutional the sky was so clear that it appeared as though we could reach out and touch the stars. It was a gorgeous morning.
For today N.O.A.A. again predicts no precipitation with clear skies. The temperature is not forecast to make it out of the twenties today. The Weather Underground model forecast maps are predicting clear skies for today as well. The cloud cover is not expected to exceed 30%.
My Weather Stick points down! All three of my electronic instruments forecast fair skies with improving barometric pressure. Considering the view I have out my windows, the N.O.A.A. and Weather Underground maps and my electronic instruments I would agree that we would have a beautiful day with cold temperatures. Just what the ski areas need to make enough snow for the ski enthusiasts to be able to get out and enjoy the slopes. It may be cold, but getting active it should be fairly comfortable.

Not As Cold As It Could Be
Overnight the clouds did what I suspected they might, and that was to move out and leave the sky clear. The temperature did fall, but not as far as I thought it might. Apparently some clouds did move through the area around 23:00 hours last night and that slowed the fall of the temperature. Right now ( 06:00 hours) the temperature is a little over 20°F.
For our area N.O.A.A. is forecasting no precipitation. Thirty minutes north of here they are predicting some snow. That is a good thing for the ski areas. They should be able to make snow as well as adding some natural snow. The temperature in our area is forecast to remain close to the freezing mark. Further, the cloud cover is projected to be in the range of 72% until late this afternoon when it is forecast to drop to 58%.
My Weather Stick points down (no other comment necessary). All three of the electronic instruments forecast improving barometric pressure. It seems that high pressure is once again in control of our weather. The remote weather station is forecasting partly cloudy skies. The other two instruments forecast clear skies. Based on what I see outside, the Weather Underground forecast maps, the NEXRAD regional radar and the N.O.A.A. graphical forecasts maps I suspect there will be very few clouds, no precipitation and seasonable temperatures.

Cooling Down Quickly
The clouds of yesterday and this morning have almost completely dissipated. This is resulting in the temperate falling into the low twenties already. These may not be the lowest temperatures of December but they may get close. According to N.O.A.A. the cloud cover was supposed to get down to about 78%. I think it may have gotten significantly lower than that.
For the overnight there is no precipitation predicted. The cloud cover is forecast to remain in the mid to upper 70% range. The Weather Underground model forecasts maps also indicate no storms in the immediate future. There are only a few spurious echoes showing up on the regional NEXRAD radar.
Once again, with the relative humidity at 73%, my Weather Stick points only slightly down. All three of my electronic instruments forecast improving barometric pressure. The remote weather station is the only instrument forecasting partly cloudy skies. I think, based on the data that I see, that the skies will continue to clear, the temperature continue to fall for a return to more seasonable weather.

Leftover Rain
The additional rain that we see reported overnight is the result of some frozen precipitation that melted and registered in the rain gauge. There was actually no rain overnight. This means N.OA.A. called for scattered mixed precipitation or snow showers and we had neither. The cloud cover has remained persistent, certainly in the 80% range. The temperature has changed very little overnight, remaining at the freezing mark or just above it.
For today N.OA.A. is forecasting no precipitation, overcast to mostly cloudy skies, and a ten or twelve degree shift in temperature during the day. The Weather Underground model forecast maps are also predicting no inclement weather for today. The only precipitation I was able to see on the NEXRAD radar was just east of great lakes. I would suspect that this was lake effect snow. That precipitation should not reach our area.
My Weather Stick points down, and that is another verification that high relative humidity (84%) causes it to point down. The barometric pressure is rising according to the Weather Station Console and the Min/ Max Thermometer. The remote weather station is also showing the barometric pressure rising. The former two electronic instruments are forecasting fair skies. The remote weather station forecasts inclement weather. From the model forecast maps, N.OA.A. forecast and my own instruments I would expect the sky to become partly cloudy to clear, with temperatures in the mid to upper thirties and no precipitation.

It Has Not Left Yet
Today was Boxing Day in England. This is the day when the aristocracy gave presents to their servants and the peasants. For us today it was a miserable stormy day. We started out with snow, changed to frizzle, had some fog and ended up with some more snow flurries. The temperature change about 2°F since 07:00 hours this morning. Further, the sky has remained overcast. Miserable is about the best thing we can say about today.
Overnight N.O.A.A. forecasts light, scattered mixed precipitation changing to snow after midnight. The temperature is not forecast to fall more than about 5°F, and the overcast is not expected to get below 81%. This does not appear to foretell a very pleasant evening. If you received a good book for Christmas this would be a good night to begin reading it.
My weather stick, shock of shocks, points down, and guess what the relative humidity is 90%. Am I being sarcastic? All three of my electronic instruments forecast deteriorating barometric pressure with rain. I cannot add anything to that forecast. Look for light rain, cool temperatures, overcast skies and the possibility of black ice on the roadways.

Another Storm Has Arrived
We watched the clouds move in yesterday afternoon as a prelude to the snow that started this morning. Currently, with the temperature hovering near the freezing mark, this is a wet heavy snow. So far there has been little or no wind associated with this storm. Overnight the temperature changed very little, only about 3°F. In addition, the sky has remained overcast.
According to N.O.A.A. this system is to remain in place all day. They are calling for this to be an ice event, but right now it is snowing. The temperature is only expected to rise about 8°F. The sky is forecast to remain overcast.
With the relative humidity at 84% my Weather Stick points down. All three of the electronic instruments forecast deteriorating barometric pressure. My Weather Station, Console is forecasting a storm. The other two instruments are forecasting inclement weather. Based on this data and the information from N.O.A.A. we can expect this storm system to remain in place all day.

Have You Recovered?
It is now Christmas night, and I hope every one has had a delightful day. As we drove out Route 4 to visit some family this afternoon there were clouds moving into the area. The was a mix of cirrus, stratus and stratocumulus clouds as you looked from east to west. N.O.A.A. did have the predominant weather correct for the daylight hours since we had no rain or other precipitation. They did say that cloud cover would increase during the afternoon and it did.
The clouds that moved in during the afternoon are threatening to bring us some inclement weather. N.O.A.A. predicts that the evening will start off with no precipitation, but by 20:00 hours freezing precipitation is forecast to overspread the area. This will be a tough one to call because the temperature will be hovering near the freezing mark. The cloud cover started near 80%, and is forecast to climb to 100% shortly after midnight.
It is amazing that the relative humidity this evening being 3% lower than this morning has caused my Weather Stick to point up. My electronic instruments seem to be more than a little confused. The Weather Station Console forecasts fair skies with improving barometric pressure. The Min/Max Thermometer forecasts partly cloudy skies with deteriorating barometric pressure. The remote weather station is once again hung up on clouds deteriorating barometric pressure. With the clouds having thickened and lowered during the afternoon, two of the three electronic instruments forecasting deteriorating barometric pressure and the Weather Underground precipitation maps showing a storm moving in my best guess is that we will have some inclement weather overnight. This may make for a very interesting commute tomorrow morning.

Merry Christmas
When I started this report at 05:00 hours, the low temperature had occurred at 19:00 hours and was 33.6°F. During the past hour, the temperature has fallen to 29.3°F, and is the new overnight low. The sky has remained clear, and we have had no precipitation overnight. It appears that N.O.A.A and I did get both the predominant weather and the forecast for the temperature just about right.
For today, N.O.A.A. predicts no precipitation, a gradual increase in cloud cover, and warm temperatures. The general forecast for our area is for inclement weather to begin later tonight and last through tomorrow. The Weather Underground model forecast maps do not show that system moving in until late tomorrow. I am not quite sure what to believe.
In response to the 61% relative humidity, my Weather Stick points straight out. Two of my electronic instruments forecast fair skies and improving barometric pressure for today. The remote weather station forecasts cloudy conditions with improving barometric pressure for today. With the clear, star-studded sky and low humidity, along with the high barometric pressure I suspect we will have a very pleasant day. It will not be a white Christmas, but the white may come tomorrow. We are just going to have to wait to see what happens. Enjoy your Christmas family gathering, and may peace be the order of the day in our families and our world. Merry Christmas!

High Pressure Building In
With high pressure building in, N.O.A.A. got the predominant weather correct, and we had no rain or other precipitation. It has been a windy day with the wind ranging from 1.5 to 13mph. The clouds from yesterday’s storm have dissipated, and the sky currently is clear. As a result of that clear sky, the temperature is beginning to fall precipitously.
For the overnight N.O.A.A. predicts clear skies, no precipitation and temperatures in the mid-twenties. Even the Weather Underground model forecast maps are predicting clear skies for the overnight.
My Weather Stick points straight out and that as a result of 58% relative humidity. Two of my electronic instruments forecast fair skies with continued improving barometric pressure. The remote weather station also predicts improving barometric pressure but with clouds. Currently I see no clouds in the sky so I must discount that latter forecast. I suspect we will see no clouds and cool temperatures for the overnight.

Another Day Of Transition
We did not have any precipitation overnight. N.O.A.A. did predict scattered rain showers and scattered mixed precipitation overnight, but if there were any, they did not occur here. Further, with the temperature will above freezing I would suspect and the precipitation to be liquid rather than frozen. Our low temperature did occur at about 19:00 hours last night. The other predominant future overnight was the wind. That wind continues to blow out of the west to south southwest this morning.
For today N.O.A.A. continues to predict light scattered mixed precipitation until around noon, after which, they are predicting light scattered rain showers. The temperature is expected to reach a high of 41°F. The cloud cover is expected to increase from 55% to 86% around noontime and then fall to about 60%.
My Weather Stick points down, and with 66% relative humidity that is no surprise at all. My Weather Station Console and Min/Max Thermometer are forecasting partly cloudy skies with improving barometric pressure. The remote weather station is forecasting rain with improving barometric pressure. It appears that the low-pressure system continues to hold on, but high pressure is beginning to build in. I hope every one has completed their preparations for Christmas. I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas.

A Stormy Day
N.O.A.A. did have the predominant weather correct for today. We had .2 inches less that an inch of rain out of this storm. I recently checked the NEXRAD radar, and they show most of the rain gone from our area, but there is still some to move out of Eastern Maine. The clouds are beginning to dissipate here, and the moon is visible, although there are still some clouds around.
For the overnight, N.O.A.A. forecasts light scattered showers around the area, but those may change to mixed frozen precipitation after midnight. The temperature is not forecast to fall below freezing overnight, but it will be close. Also, they predict that the cloud cover may dissipate into the 50% range by 01:00 hours, and then rebound to the 61% level by 04:00 hours.
My Weather Stick still points down, and with 91% relative humidity that is no surprise at all. My Weather Station Console is forecasting a storm with deteriorating barometric pressure. The Min/Max Thermometer predicts rain with deteriorating barometric pressure. The remote weather station is forecasting rain with deteriorating barometric pressure. If this looks familiar, it should because these are almost the same readings present this morning. It appears that the low-pressure system will hold on for a while before any high pressure begins to build in. By tomorrow afternoon, we may see a return to sunshine, but I do not believe that the temperatures will yet return to seasonable levels. I do not think we will have a “White Christmas” this year.. Tomorrow is Christmas Eve, and I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas.

The Rain Came
Overnight, N.O.A.A. and the Weather Underground model forecast maps had the predominant weather correct. The rain started around 20:30 hours, and it has continued all night. The wind has remained calm all night. We reached our low temperature just after 16:00 hours yesterday afternoon. Since then the temperature has risen to just under the freezing mark.
Early this morning the prediction is for continued icing conditions. With the temperature just below freezing that certainly is realistic. By 10:00 hours, the forecast calls for a change to rain, and that rain to continue through the afternoon. The cloud cover is expected to be in the upper 90% range. Further, the temperature is not expected to get out of the thirties all day.
My Weather Stick points down, and with 88% relative humidity that is no surprise. My Weather Station Console is forecasting a storm with deteriorating barometric pressure. The Min/Max Thermometer predicts rain with deteriorating barometric pressure. The remote weather station is forecasting clouds with deteriorating barometric pressure. Obviously, we have a low-pressure system moving into the area, and there seems to be quite a bit of rain associated with it. I looked at the NEXRAD radar and there is still quite a bit of rain to move through the area. The Weather Underground model forecasts maps indicate this system will not be out of the area until some time tomorrow. With all this information, my prediction is for the rain to continue at least into this evening.

A Mackerel Sky
Once again, N.O.A.A. and the Weather Underground model forecast maps had the predominant weather correct. The clouds did begin to stream in by about 13:00 hours. By 16:00 hours, we were mostly cloudy, much more than 36% cloud cover. We were supposed to be warmer than yesterday, but with the lack of sunshine due to the clouds, we were not. At least it was not very windy so wind chill was not a factor.
Starting about 19:00 hours N.O.A.A. predicts icing conditions. That is predicted to continue all night. By 04:00 hours, the temperature is forecast to be above freezing. The cloud cover is forecast to be 100% by 01:00 hours and remain there until at least 04:00 hours.
For the first time in a long time, my Weather Stick points up, but that does not signify improving weather. It only indicates that the relative humidity is low. My electronic instruments are again making life interesting. The Weather Station Console forecasts fair skies and improving barometric pressure. The Min/Max Thermometer forecasts partly cloudy skies and deteriorating barometric pressure. Finally, the remote weather station forecasts fair skies with improving barometric pressure. Based on the cloud cover, the weather underground forecast maps and the N.O.A.A. graphical forecast maps I would suggest that we are in for a bit of inclement weather. If you need to drive tonight, I would be extremely careful after midnight.

One More Day
Once again, NO.A.A. and the Weather Underground model forecast maps had the predominant weather correct. We had no rain or any other precipitation overnight. As I mentioned yesterday it felt more like spring than the start of winter. Overall, it was a windy day and evening with wind gusts reaching from fifteen to nineteen mph. That wind appears to have diminished over the last couple of hours.
For today NO.A.A. and the Weather Underground model forecast maps have the predominant weather as being clear with no precipitation. The wind should be less of a factor for today. Temperatures should be in the mid thirties with the cloud cover less than 40%. Again, we have a forecast of a rather pleasant day.
My weather stick, for the first time in a long time, points slightly up in the morning. Apparently, that is because the relative humidity is only 63%. All three of my electronic instruments forecast fair skies and improving barometric pressure. It appears that we will have one more pleasant day, before we get into a period of foul weather. The forecast I see for tomorrow does not look pleasant at all.

This Has Been A Good Day
Today was more like the vernal equinox than the winter solstice. Temperatures were in the mid to upper forties, the sun was bright, the sky was clear, and the winds were light. NO.A.A. and the Weather Underground model forecast maps had the predominant weather correct. We had no rain or other precipitation. These are days that, at least for the time being, we will not have to pay for.
For the overnight N.O.A.A. and the Weather Underground, model forecast maps predict that we will not have any precipitation. The temperature should get into the low twenties, but the cloud cover should remain less than 20%. The wind, that was a feature today, will diminish overnight.
My Weather Stick in response to 55% relative humidity points up. All three of my electronic instruments are forecasting partly cloudy skies and improving barometric pressure. I am not so sure about the partly cloudy skies but the barometric pressure is rising. Based on the data from NO.A.A. I do not think we will see much the way of clouds during the overnight.

Another Pleasant Night
We have had another clear night, and the temperature only reached the middle twenties. We did have some moderate wind, but nothing higher than five or 6mph. N.O.A.A. got the predominant weather correct, since we had no precipitation at this location. This was despite my electronic instruments, which were calling for rain or at least cloudy conditions.
For the daylight hours on this first day of winter, N.O.A.A. sees no precipitation and very little cloud cover. The Weather Underground model forecasts maps also forecast no precipitation for today. On the NEXRAD radar, there is some precipitation to our west, but it is moving very slowly, and will probably not affect us today.
My weather stick, in response to the 71% relative humidity, points slightly down. All three of my electronic instruments indicate deteriorating barometric pressure. Two of the instruments still predict rain for today, but the remote weather station forecasts only cloudy conditions. I still feel that the instruments are a bit ahead of their time since I see no clouds in the sky and only light winds. I would suggest that we will have another bright day with milder than normal temperatures and light winds.

A Cold, But Clear Night
A few clouds passed overhead during the day today. N.OAA., the Weather Underground forecast maps and the NEXRAD radar all had it right today. We had no rain. The temperature, instead of being slightly warmer, was slightly cooler than yesterday. The wind was light and variable all day. All in all this was a pleasant but cool day.
There is no precipitation forecast for the overnight. The cloud cover is expected to remain below 50%. It will be cool, but not frigid. Tomorrow is the first day of winter, or winter solstice. Usually we have a significant snowpack by this time. Currently, it appears that we are not having the troughs form dragging the cold air out of Canada. That pattern may form toward the start of next year.
My Weather Stick responds to the 69% relative humidity by sticking straight out. All three of my electronic instruments, responding to a rapid fall in the barometric pressure, are predicting deteriorating barometric pressure. Two of them forecast for rain. The remote weather station forecasts cloudy conditions. What I see outside are mostly clear skies with an occasional cloud. My feeling is that we will continue to see clear skies, cool temperatures and light winds.

A Nice Day Ahead?
The sky did clear completely overnight. As a result, the temperature fell to a low of 14.1°F. N.O.A.A. did get the predominant weather correct for our area. In other words, we had no snow, rain or other precipitation.
For today, N.O.A.A. forecasts no precipitation for this area. The cloud cover is expected to get to a maximum of 26% by 13:00 hours. Temperatures are forecast to be just a little bit higher than they were yesterday, and the relative humidity is expected to be just a little lower than it was yesterday.
In response to the 81% relative humidity, my Weather Stick points slightly down. All three of my electronic instruments are acting in concert forecasting fair skies and improving barometric pressure. This is quite a change from what we have seen for the past couple of days. When there is such agreement with N.O.A.A. the Weather Underground model forecasts maps, the NEXRAD radar and my instruments I must agree and call for fair skies, light winds and moderating temperatures. The temperatures will be seasonable, but it will be a pleasant day.

A Seasonable Night
Well, N.O.A.A. certainly did not get the predominant weather correct for our area. There were no snow showers of any type in this area. We did have skies that went from cloudy to partly cloudy and back to cloudy during the daylight hours. Our current temperature is lower than the low temperature was this morning. That certainly does not bode well for the overnight.
For tonight, N.O.A.A. is predicting no precipitation. By 04:00 hours tomorrow morning the sky is expected to be crystal clear. A 3% cloud cover is crystal clear. We are starting out with about a 45% cloud cover. The comparative forecast versus actual temperature and relative humidity as well as the forecast data for the overnight will follow at the end of this report.
My Weather Stick is responding to the 57% relative humidity and points up. My electronic instruments are forecasting improving barometric pressure. The Weather Station Console forecasts clear skies. The other two instruments are forecasting partly cloudy skies. My best guess is that the sky will continue to clear overnight, the temperature will fall due to radiational cooling and the breezes will continue light to moderate.

It Is Cooling Down
Overnight, or at least around 23:00 hours, there were some light scattered snow showers. Apparently, N.O.A.A. missed those in their forecast. There was not enough snow however to measure. The clouds that produced that snow dissipated overnight, leaving us with partly cloudy skies. By my estimate, the cloud cover was around 60% when I took Bart out for his morning constitutional.

Do We Have Some Foul Weather In The Near Future?
For today, N.O.A.A. is predicting light scattered snow showers all day long. Those showers do not show up on the Weather Underground model forecast maps. The cloud cover is predicted to drop from 72 to 55% during the day. The temperature is not expected to be as high as it has been for the past several days, it will only reach a high of 34°F.
My Weather Stick is responding to the 55% relative humidity and points straight out. My electronic instruments, using the same data, have come up with slightly different forecasts. All three of them forecast improving barometric pressure. Indeed, the barometric pressure has risen overnight. My Weather Station Console forecasts fair skies. The Min/Max Thermometer forecasts partly cloudy skies. The remote weather station predicts cloudy skies. With this mix of potential forecasts, the best I can come up with is clearing skies, cool temperatures and moderate winds. I guess, we will get all the weather we are entitled to.

A Day Of Transition
For the most part the cloud cover varied from cirrus, to nimbostratus to stratocumulus, and it ranged in the mid 70% area. N.O.A.A. did have the predominant weather correct, since we had no rain. Neither N.O.A.A. nor the Weather Underground model forecasts maps predicted any precipitation for the daylight hours. The temperatures are still above normal for this time of year.
Again, for the overnight N.O.A.A. predicts no precipitation for our area, but a little north of us they may have some snow. The prediction is that the temperature will drop into the mid-twenties overnight. The cloud cover will probably be in the 50 to 60% range.
With the relative humidity at 55%, my Weather Stick finally points slightly up. The electronic instruments are all saying different things. My Weather Station Console forecasts partly cloudy skies with improving barometric pressure. The Min/Max Thermometer forecasts rain with deteriorating barometric pressure. Finally, the remote weather station forecasts cloudy skies with steady barometric pressure. Looking at the data I have available both from my own instruments and the national weather service the best I can come up with is a cooling trend with cloudy to partly cloudy skies. I do not see any rain on the regional composite radar or on the Weather Underground model forecast maps.

Still The Unsettled Pattern Persists
The overnight N.O.A.A. forecast of no rain for this area was correct. There was cloud cover certainly in the range of 69 to 85%. The temperature did not drop below freezing. The barometric pressure did rise overnight, indicating a new air mass moving in.
For today N.O.A.A. and the Weather Underground model forecasts maps predict that we will have no precipitation. The temperature is expected to rise into the mid-forties again. The cloud cover is also forecast to remain in the 70 to 80% range.
My Weather Stick still points down. All three of my electronic instruments forecast improving barometric pressure. They do not quite agree on the predominant weather. Two of them predict partly cloudy skies, and the remote weather station forecasts cloudy skies. From the current data and the information from N.O.A.A., I would have to say that we are in for some unsettled weather. I do not think you will have any precipitation though based on data at hand.

The Unsettled Pattern Persists
Today the sky remained overcast. Toward sunset, there were a few breaks in the clouds, so the N.O.A.A. forecast of 64% cloud cover was probably correct. We had no additional showers this morning or this afternoon, so the N.O.A.A. prediction of the predominant weather was correct also.
Looking at the N.O.A.A. prediction and the Weather Underground model maps it appears that we are in a strip that will have no precipitation overnight. There may be some freezing precipitation just north of us and some liquid precipitation just a little south of us. We can expect the cloud cover to remain in the range of 70 and 85%..
My Weather Stick continues to points down. If we do not have some lower relative humidity soon I think it will take a permanent set in that position. My electronic instruments appear to be totally confused. My Weather Station Console predicts deteriorating barometric pressure and rain. My Min/Max Thermometer forecasts partly cloudy skies with improving barometric pressure. Finally, the remote weather station forecast cloudy skies with deteriorating barometric pressure. My best guess is that we will have unsettled weather with relatively mild temperatures. It also appears that we will have a bit more wind overnight.

Another Dank Dismal
Last night started out clear enough that the constellations were easily identified. During the overnight clouds moved in to obscure the stars, moon and sun. This does not fit with the overnight forecast set forth by N.O.A.A. last night. The forecast versus actual data was very close for both the temperature and relative humidity. That is a real switch.
For today N.O.A.A. and the Weather Underground model maps forecast a brief period of light scattered showers late this morning. The cloud cover is expected to increase to 85 percent by early afternoon, and then decrease to about 64% around sunset.
My Weather Stick points down. All three of my electronic instruments indicate deteriorating barometric pressure. They all predict different weather. The Weather Station Console forecasts partly cloudy skies. The Min/Max Thermometer predicts rain, and the remote wearer station forecasts cloudy skies. I think we have a slight chance for light showers, and it will be overcast all day. The best we can hope for is a dismal day.

Looking For A Change
The predominant weather forecast by N.O.A.A., the Weather Underground model maps and me was right on target. We had no rain or other precipitation (I think we went through a very light shower on our way to a Christmas Party with friends), but there was no measurable rainfall. The temperature and relative humidity data are detailed at the end of this report.
For the overnight the prediction is for no precipitation by either N.O.A.A. or the Weather Underground model maps. We are not even supposed to get very cold tonight. I hate to think about what this is going to cost us in February.
My Weather Stick points slightly down, and with 74% relative humidity that is not surprising. Two of my electronic instruments forecast clear skies with improving barometric pressure. The remote weather station forecasts partly cloudy skies with improving barometric pressure. My guess, based on what I see outside is a pleasant, but cool evening.

Today We Start Cool & Dry
N.O.A.A. missed the mark on the predominant weather, since we had no additional showers overnight, By the time I arose this morning the fog and much of the overcast had dissipated. The moon and many stars were visible. The temperature did get far enough below freezing for long enough that my hose would have frozen solid. I am glad I followed my instincts and not the forecast.
For today N.O.A.A. and the Weather Underground model forecast maps forecast a decent day. They do not foreee any precipitation, and the temperature is expected to be above normal. The cloud cover is supposed to fall from its current 72% to about 55% by 16:00 hours this afternoon.
Once again my Weather stick points down indicating high relative humidity (93%). All three of my electronic instruments forecast improving barometric pressure. Two of them predict partly cloudy skies, while the remote weather station predicts a cloudy day. I think we may see some sun, warmer than normal temperatures and light winds.

Dark, Dank, And Dismal
N.O.A.A. did not get the predominant weather correct for today; rather we had heavy fog all day long. Apparently we had a small amount, 0.02in., of drizzle during the afternoon. The cloud cover was at least 80% all day, and it probably was closer to 100%. This has been another one of those dark, dank, and dismal days.
For the overnight N.O.A.A. forecasts rain tapering to light showers by 04:00 hours tomorrow morning. They further predict the cloud cover will decrease to about 77% from its current high of 93%. Once again, they predict that the temperature will not go below freezing. I do not think I will take their word for it. I will drain and coil my hose when my chores are done.
The relative humidity currently is 93% and my Weather Stick points down. We are surprised by this? For the third report all three of my electronic instruments forecast inclement weather with deteriorating barometric pressure. How can I say this? We are going to have another dark, dank, dismal period of weather.

We Are Still Fogbound
As the title says, we are fogbound this morning. We had no measurable precipitation overnight. I had a meeting last night, and when I got home the sky was almost clear. That clear sky allowed temperatures to fall lower than the forecast due to radiational cooling. Obviously the clouds moved in after I got home.
According to N.O.A.A. the fog should be gone before 10:00 hours this morning. They also say that we may have some light scattered showers from about 13:00 hours on this afternoon. With the temperature forecast to be in the mid-forties that should be all liquid precipitation, if we get any at all. The cloud cover is forecast to be in the 70 to 80% range, except that at about 13:00 hours its may be around 67%. The temperature and relative humidity comparative and forecast data follow at the end of the report.
My Weather Stick points down. All three of my electronic instruments forecast continued deteriorating barometric pressure and inclement conditions for today. I think that is exactly what we will have for the daylight hours today.

A Record For This Date
I only have one year of data, but on this date last year the high temperature was 20.6°F. Therefore, at 51.6°F we have a new high temperature record for this date. The cloud cover has gone from cirrus, to cirrostratus, to altostratus, to stratus. There were occasional breaks of sunshine throughout the day. For the rest of the forecast for today N.O.A.A. was correct.
For the overnight N.O.A.A. predicts fog rolling and around 04:00 tomorrow morning. Further, they predict that the temperature will not fall below freezing overnight.
My Weather Stick points down. All three of my electronic instruments forecast continued deteriorating barometric pressure. Two of the instruments are forecasting rain, and the remote weather station forecasts overcast conditions. If this looks familiar it should because It is exactly the same situation that I had this morning. Based on all this data and the Weather Underground model forecast maps I think we will have a relatively warm but overcast night.

Unseasonable Warmth
For the middle of December we are having exceptionally warm weather. The presence of the fog this morning certainly attests to that fact. The N.O.A.A. prediction that the rain would end, and it would be replaced with fog was accurate. Their prediction was off only on the time that change would occur. That change occurred by 19:00 hours last evening.
For today N.O.A.A. predicts that the fog will burn off by midmorning, but the sky will not clear during the day. The cloud cover should get down to around 53% by 16:00 hours this afternoon. We are not supposed to have any rain today, but the temperature is supposed to be warmer than normal.
My Weather Stick points down, and with 92% humidity are we surprised by that? I do not think so. All three of my electronic instruments forecast continued deteriorating barometric pressure. Two of the instruments are forecasting rain, and the remote weather station forecasts overcast conditions. Based on the N.O.A.A. forecast data as well as my own instrumentation I would suggest that we will have a warm day with plenty of overcast. It does not appear that we will have any precipitation today.

The End Of The Nice Weather
We have had some significant rain today, and that rain started at about 14:30 hours this afternoon. There has been significant cloud cover all day. So, the N.O.A.A. prediction of a dismal day was more than accurate.
For the overnight N.O.A.A. predicts the possibility of light showers with a brief period without rain, and fog moving in after 20:00 hours and staying for the rest of the night. This overnight will be as dismal, or more so, than today was.
My Weather Stick points down, and with 90% humidity aren't we surprised by that? My Weather Station Console forecasts a storm warning with deteriorating barometric pressure area. The Bell Has Stopped Ringing
We reached our low temperature at about 19:00 hours last night. Since then the sky cover has gone to about 100%. The temperature has continued to rise also. N.O.A.A. got the predominant weather and cloud cover right. In other words we had no rain, and the cloud cover certainly increased to about 100%. As usual the comparative and forecast data will be found at the end of this report.
For today N.O.A.A. predicts light rain showers for this morning and steadier rain for this afternoon. The cloud cover is expected to be 100%. This is not a forecast for a pretty day.
Once again, my Weather Stick points down in response to the 82% relative humidity. Two of my electronic instruments forecast rain with deteriorating barometric pressure. The remote weather station that has its sensor In the barn, forecasts mixed sun and clouds, also with deteriorating barometric pressure. This is the clearest stretch of weather we have seen in a while. Not long ago we had a dry spell, but this has been clear & dry. Once again, N.O.A.A. got the predominant weather and cloud cover right. So far I am impressed. The temperature and relative humidity data comparing the forecast and actual data are at the end of the report, along with the forecast data for tonight.
For the overnight N.O.A.A. predicts that there will be no precipitation, and for most of the night cloud cover will not exceed 14%, but it will increase, they say, to around 42% by 04.00 hours.
In response to 86% relative humidity my Weather Stick points down. Once again, all three of the electronic instruments forecast fair skies and improving barometric pressure. So far, the instruments have been getting it right, therefore I will agree with them again for the overnight forecast.

Clear As A Bell At Dawning
While the temperature did not get as low as I thought it might, we did get lower than N.O.A.A. predicted. The predicted cloud cover certainly was as low as the actual. We also, had no precipitation overnight. High barometric pressure certainly does seem to be in control this morning.
For today, N.O.A.A. predicts that there will be no precipitation, the cloud cover will be less than 4% and the relative humidity will fall to less than 50%. All in all their prediction is for a very nice December day.

Late this afternoon the wind shifted to the northwest. This is bringing in some much cooler air from Canada. It is also sweeping the clouds out of the sky, leaving us with a clear star studded evening. N.O.A.A. predicted that the mixed precipitation would end before noon and the cloud cover would decrease to about 58%. It appears that they got this one right.
For this evening and early tomorrow morning N.O.A.A. predicts that there will be no precipitation, and the cloud cover will be very nearly nonexistent. If they are correct this should allow for a significant amount of radiational cooling to take place, and the temperature may drop significantly.
My Weather Stick points down in response to the 82% relative humidity. All three of my electronic instruments are forecasting fair skies and improving barometric pressure for the overnight. My one question has to do with the temperature overnight. At this time of year with the sky as clear as it is forecast to be the temperatures usually get much colder. This evening the forecast temperature is not expected to go below 20°F. That will surprise me in the morning if it is true.
High Temperature (°F): 44.6
Current Temperature (°F): 26.9
Relative Humidity: 82%
Dew Point (°F): 22.1
Heat Index (°F): N/A
Barometric Pressure (in Hg): 30.34
Wind Direction: Northwest
Wind Speed (mph): 0.0
Wind Chill (°F): 26.9
Precipitation: None
Amount (inches): 0.02
Sky-PM: Clear
Cloud Type: None
Weather Stick: Down
Comparative data Four during the day today.
Temperature: 35°F/34°F//37°F/38°F//40°F/42°F//39°F/39°F.
Relative Humidity: 75%/84%//64%/86%/52%/69%//54%/64%.
As you can see the N.O.A.A. temperature forecast data and the actual data were very close together. Unfortunately relative humidity forecast data was as much as 22% away from the reported data.
Temperature: 32°F/28°F/25°F/22°F.
Relative Humidity: 75%/81%/81%/81%
The forecast does not call for the temperature to fall very far, and the relative humidity is forecast to remain quite steady at 81%.
How About Another Gray Day?
Bart and I started the day with an abbreviated exercise period. The main reason for this was the light mixed precipitation that was falling. The roads were wet, and where there was snow on the driveway it was very slippery. The sky is overcast, but the temperature is above freezing. According to N.O.A.A. this light mixed precipitation will end around noontime. The temperature is not expected to change very much, but the cloud cover is expected to drop from 91% to around 58%. This may mean that we will see the sun before the end of the day.
Quite obviously N.O.A.A. had the overnight forecast just about right, although I was unable to measure the amount of precipitation that fell because there is snow in the funnel of the rain gauge. The comparative and forecast temperature and relative humidity data follow at the end of this report.
In response to 79% relative humidity my Weather Stick points straight out. My electronic instruments seem to be a bit confused. My Weather Station Console forecasts improving barometric pressure and fair skies. The Man/Max Thermometer calls for a mix of sun and clouds with deteriorating barometric pressure. Finally, the remote weather station forecasts a mix of sun and clouds with improving barometric pressure. It is difficult to know who to believe. My best guess is that we will have an unsettled day to day. I guess we will get what we will get.
Low Temperature (°F): 33.4
Current Temperature (°F): 34.8
Relative Humidity: 79%
Dew Point (°F): 28.9
Heat Index (°F): N/A
Barometric Pressure (in Hg): 30.15
Wind Direction: West Southwest
Wind Speed (mph): 0.0
Wind Chill (°F): 34.8
Precipitation: Light Mix
Amount (inches): 0.00
Sky-AM: Overcast
Cloud Type: Stratus
Weather Stick: Straight
Comparative data.
Temperature: 36°F/37°F//36°F/38°F//32°F/38°F//30°F/36°F.
Relative Humidity: 67%/66%//72%/68%//66%/70%//72%/74%.
As you can see the N.O.A.A. relative humidity forecast data were closer to the actual recorded data, than the temperature data was. That is quite unusual.
Forecast data.
Temperature: 35°F/37°F/40°F/39°F.
