Tuesday, 1:00 pm: Too much work: I feel like a cowboy, what with clearing brush, mending fences and all. The weather has been great which means more time spent outside.

Spring Flooding

Sunday, 9:30 am: This has not been an average week. The Saint John River flooded and left us generally isolated for a day and a half. Fortunately we had no damage: Our house is part way up a hill and about one mile from the river.

No Show Tunes Today

Wednesday, 4:15 pm: Better late then never. The day is relatively warm, the snow is still melting, and I am inside pecking away on my computer hoping to find enough consonants, syllables and vowels to write something that is vaguely coherent.

April, April

Sunday: 8:15 am: We are about two-thirds of the way through April and here in Terra Incognita [a.k.a. northern Maine] most of the snow has melted. At our snow stake it is barely covering one inch. Of course the snow banks are still quite high.

More snow again?

Sunday, noon: We arrived safely home yesterday afternoon. It was almost short-sleeve weather in Bangor and Augusta. I momentarily forgot I have short-sleeve shirts. And I forgot what automobile traffic was all about. We survived, minus a few dollars in our wallets and credit cards.

Charles Ames is a former educator and world traveler. He and his wife [Ruth] moved to Grand Isle Maine from Arizona in 1998. They reside in a log home on 60 acres of wooded land. They share their home with five dogs, two parrots, two parakeets and a goldfish.

Besides amateur weather observing, his other hobbies include; ham radio, astronomy, bird-watching, travel and fine dining, when and where he can find it. He is also volunteer Weather Spotter for the NWS in Caribou, and is an active member of the St. John Valley Amateur Radio Association. He supplies information using a wireless Davis Vantage-Pro.
